Lingerie
Within recent years, women’s lingerie
has been brought to the forefront of public consciousness. Lingerie
chain Victoria’s Secret sees annual sales of $3.5 billion,
and has its annual lingerie fashion show broadcasted on network
television. Men’s magazines like Maxim have set new publishing
sales records, with much of the appeal from its racy photographs
of women in lingerie. Yet for women who are uncomfortable with their
appearance, lingerie leaves very little to the imagination.
Extra fat which accumulates
on the hips, thighs, and buttocks might be easily masked in clothing,
but in lingerie, there is no room to hide. Thigh fat might also
manifest itself as unsightly cellulite, making flattering lingerie
difficult to find. Unfortunately, there is no way to reduce specific
areas of fat. The way to burn off excess fat in lingerie trouble
areas is through aerobic exercise, which burns lots of calories;
resistance exercise or weight lifting, which builds muscle (muscle
is the engine that burns calories and maintains metabolic rate);
and limiting excessive caloric intake. Spot reduction of fat around
lingerie trouble areas is not possible. Burned fat comes from all
over the body.
