Weight Loss
Plans
There are many different weight loss plans
available to those who want to lose weight. Almost any of the commercial
weight loss plans can work, but only if the plan successfully motivates
the individual to decrease the amount of calories they eat, increase
the amount of calories they burn per day, or ideally a combination
of both.
A safe and responsible weight loss plan should
include a few vital features. First, the weight loss plan should
be safe. Its diet should include all of the Recommended Daily Allowances
(RDAs) for vitamins, minerals, and protein. The weight loss plan
should have a diet low in calories (energy) only, not in essential
foodstuffs. The weight loss plans should be directed towards a
gradual, steady weight loss. The problem with many calorie-restricted
weight loss plans is the initial rapid weight loss during the first
few weeks, which is mostly fluid. The initial rapid loss of fluid
is generally regained quickly when a normal-calorie diet is resumed.
Successful weight loss plans should also include
plans for weight management after the weight loss phase ends. Keeping
lost weight off is the hardest part of controlling weight. Therefore,
the chosen weight loss plans should include an emphasis in permanently
changing dietary habits as well as levels of physical activity,
so that the lifestyle that possibly contributed to past weight gain
is altered.
